Kunst zum Draufhauen
Stella Boess und Stefan Gross haben den Frits Philips Lichtkunstpreis des Museums Kunstlicht in de Kunst in Eindhoven mit ihrer Arbeit "Love Hate Punch" gewonnen.
Der Preis ist mit 5000 € dotiert.
Die Arbeit besteht aus einem Boxsack, auf den die Ausstellungsbesucher nach Herzenslust schlagen dürfen.
Nähert man sich dem Sack, dann verbreitet er im Ruhezustand dunkelrotes Licht. Beginnt der Betrachter aber auf den Sack einzuschlagen,
dann sieht er bei jedem Treffer einen Blitz an der Einschlagstelle. Angefeuert durch die Blitze, will man immer weiter schlagen.
Nach weiteren Schlägen verändert der Sack die Farbe über hellrot, gelb bis hin zu grünlich-weiß glühend - auch er gerät in Rage!
Die Künstler: " Wir haben diese Arbeit gemacht, weil wir all die seichten Emotionen rund um LED Beleuchtung über hatten.
Wir wollen die Leute dazu anstacheln, im Museum körperlich tätig zu werden und in Wut zu geraten."
Schon während der Eröffnung wurde dieser Wunsch von den Besuchern beherzigt. Kommentar einer Besucherin: "Eine Woche voll Frust konnte ich hier los werden, danke."

Kunst om op te meppen!
Stefan Gross en Stella Boess, twee kunstenaars uit Rotterdam, hebben op zaterdag 27 september j.l. met hun installatie “Love Hate Punch” de Frits Philips Kunstprijs gewonnen.
Deze prijs is toegekend door het Museum “Kunstlicht in de Kunst” te Eindhoven.
De installatie van het tweetal betreft een bokszak waarop ook echt gemept mag worden. Als je erop af loopt, hangt hij daar aanvankelijk donkerrood te glimmen.
Je pakt de bokshandschoenen en slaat erop los. Vervolgens zie je lichtflitsen die je opjutten om nog verder te gaan.
Langzaam maar zeker verandert de bokszak dan van kleur – hij lijkt je woede te delen! - totdat hij tenslotte lichtgroen blijft gloeien.
Aldus de kunstenaars: “We hebben dit kunstwerk gemaakt omdat we het beu waren dat interactief licht vaak zachte, vlakke emoties uit wil lokken.
We wilden juist de tomeloze woede oproepen die je onverwacht kan overkomen en je geheel meesleept.
En we wilden iets in dit museum plaatsen dat niet alleen aangeraakt kan worden, maar dat zelfs tot een intensieve, fysieke interactie uitnodigt."
Tijdens de opening werd er al lustig op los geslagen door de bezoekers. Het commentaar van een van de meppers: “Een week vol frustraties ben ik zo in een keer kwijt!”
Het kunstwerk maakt deel uit van de tentoonstelling re-ACT die nog tot en met 25 januari 2009 te zien is.

Art you can hit
Stella Boess and Stefan Gross have won the Frits Philips ArtificialLightArt Prize 2008 with their work “Love Hate Punch”. The prize is endowed with € 5000.
The work consists of a punching bag that museum visitors can hit to their heart’s content. As you approach the bag, you find it glowing in a dark red.
When you start hitting it, you see flashes of white light where you hit. The flashes spur you on to keep hitting.
With more hits, the punching bag starts changing colour from brighter red, via yellow, to a greenish-white bright glow - it seems to share your rage!
The artists: “We made this work because we had enough of all those shallow and balmy emotions evoked by LED lighting. We wanted to entice people to become
physically active in a museum.”
Already during the opening, the visitors were hitting the bag. One visitor commented: “I’ve just got rid of a week of frustration, thanks.”
